Derby Name: Keltron

Number: 3030

Team: Niagara Roller Girls (Home: Doomsday Darlings/Travel: GreenBelt Riot)

Where do you work?  Waitress/Bartender at The Rex Hotel in Welland. Also, I’m in school at Niagara College for Art and Design Foundation.

How does your job affect your derby career?   It works out pretty well, I think. Work is super accommodating with bouts, practices and volunteering events.

What are your hobbies outside of derby?  Thinking about derby, Talking about derby. Ha! I love sketching and working on improving those skills. Pals are cool, too.  I’m a total homebody/introvert so I love staying in. Movies, vinyls, food. I love that stuff.

How do your outside hobbies/skills affect your derby career? Again everything works well together. I’m super lazy most of the time, but I do totally work, stay productive and work my ass of staying moderately fit.

What is the story behind your derby name? –Deltron 3030 is a hip hop trio I dig. Deltron=Keltron. My number is 3030.

Why roller derby? –Why not Roller Derby?! I absolutely love it. The community, the game, the skating. Before I saw Whip It, I went to a double header in Toronto with my sister. Best time! Years later, after high school (Which life would have been so much better is I started derby in high school, which i highly suggest any boy or girl to do) While living in Niagara, I needed something to love and I knew i loved the idea of derby. Shit. It’s been a great time.

What would you be doing right now if you weren’t involved with derby?— In a sad little ball on the ground, crying. Ha! Goodness, if I didn’t do derby… Well I’d still currently be in school. If derby and school wasn’t a thing, I think I’d be traveling, seeing some beautiful shit.

What’s your favourite part of the derby experience? –Getting to know and love the best, strongest, most empowering, kind-hearted women around. The whole community. The refs, the NSO’s, the fans. It’s an honour to spend all this time with all these great, strong folks. It’s nice being on the travel team too so I can meet derby girls from around the world.

What position do you play?— Jammer. Not a great Blocker

How do you hone your derby skills? — All my trainers have been out of this world. The feedback I get from the girls helps so much each week. Wrecker, that beauty, taught me a lot. & Kimi. & Lippy. & everyone. I love you guys so much.

What’s your favourite pre-game meal or snack?— What isn’t my snack, am I right? I got into this tradition of having a bowl of pasta for breakfast the morning of a bout. I don’t eat 3 hours before the bout starts though.

Who is your Biggest Fan(s)? –RON! At least, i think. I hope he sees this haha. I appreciate it every time i see him come out and hear him cheer. Good guy.

Who is your hero? –Showell Wrecker. She’s the strongest, most beautiful and talented woman on and off eight wheels. I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t add Bill Murray and Hunter S. Thompson, they are my men!

Most memorable derby moment? –Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down; It was all in a course of a few weeks. Getting drafted to the Doomsday Darlings was one of my favourite moments ever. That moment is totally tied with getting my 27 laps on a Thursday night and having my first bout in Windsor with the Green Belt Riot on the following Saturday. I cried at both occasions, of course.

Pre-bout rituals? — Pasta in the morning. I use to not smoke for a week before a bout, then buy a pack the morning of the bout and have one in the parking lot after and smoke half the pack that evening at the after party. But I just “quit smoking” 3 days ago. My after bout ritual is to go to McDonald’s and get a Big Mac, Filet o’ Fish, medium fry and an Oreo McFlurry.

What is your athletic background? — I played soccer for 4 years, goalie.

Advice to someone interested in playing? -PLAY, It’s as great as you think! Come play with us! We’ll teach you to skate! Learning can be hard, but it’s so incredibly rewarding. Practice is always my favourite part of my week.

Who do you want to give a SHOUT OUT to?— My parents, I just love them so much and miss them terribly. My hometown is Rodney, it’s between London and Windsor. They’re there. Shout out to my family, I love them a lot. Ma, Pa, Allie, Gayle, Hunter & Marley. My favourite group of people. Them and then NRG.

Likes/dislikes?— Likes.. My favourite colour is pink but my favourite thing to wear is black. All black everything. I really like the cold/winter. I like to smile. I make sure to try to be happy. I like it when others are happy and laughing, that’s good vibes. I like playing records and I like watching movies. I like Star Wars, Doctor Who, GoT and Buffy. I like dogs a whole lot. My dislikes.. I dislike depression. I dislike people making people feel small or dumb. I dislike hangovers. I dislike small pieces of metal, it freaks me out. I dislike Trump. I honestly really don’t like steak.

Derby wife? -Babe! Blockamolé. Technically she’s still just my fiancé.. Wife-fo-life nonetheless. That talented, glorious human. She rocks.
