Where do you work?

I work part-time at Canadian Tire to save some money for school next year!

How does your job affect your derby career?

My manager is really good with me booking off bouts and not working Thursdays for me to be able to do derby.

What are your hobbies outside of derby?

When I’m not studying; I like napping, catching up with friends, going out for food, searching for good vinyls, reading, writing and watching an unhealthy amount of Netflix.

How do your outside hobbies/skills affect your derby career?

With the stress of school and studying all the time, I find that derby really is a mental and physical outlet whenever I’m frustrated or need to blow off steam. I think with having a lot of “quiet” hobbies, derby is the place where I can be more expressive and vocal, as well as get into better shape to work off all the good food I ate.

What is the story behind your derby name?

I could not think of a derby name for the longest time! I had so many ideas and then I thought of NucLeah because it’s a play on of the word Nuclear and my name…I guess I’m a bit of a science nerd. It suited me nicely.

Why roller derby?

Why the heck not?! I watched Whip-it when I was younger and thought it was so cool! I wanted to try it out and years later when I found out my friends, Foxy Soxy and Quiet Ryot were playing for this team; I bought some skates for the next intake.

What would you be doing right now if you weren’t involved with derby?

I would press continue watching on Netflix and procrastinate doing homework.

What’s your favourite part of the derby experience?

I would say my favourite part of the derby experience is being able to meet so many different people, trying something out of your comfort zone every week and challenging myself.

What position do you play?

I’m usually a blocker but I’m trying to get into jamming more!!

How do you hone your derby skills?

Lots of practice and trying to master every new skill I’m taught.

What’s your favourite pre-game meal or snack?

I love me some junk food.

Who is your Biggest Fan(s)?

My mom and my aunt Lisa!

Who is your hero?

Derbywise – Stompkins; Spiderman

Most memorable derby moment?

I think the anxiety I had at my first bout which was a big brothers and big sisters mixer with the adults and realizing I’m an actual part of the team and no longer fresh meat.

Pre-bout rituals?

Have dinner at the Singletons! Also, massaging my own legs when I get pre-game calf cramps every.single.bout

What is your athletic background?

I used to play softball and I used to competitive swim but I stopped a couple of years ago. I also have a little history in elementary school volleyball.

Advice to someone interested in playing?

Try on some skates and get your butt out there! It’s never too late to try something new!

Who do you want to give a SHOUT OUT to?

I would like to give a shout out to TLA who always makes me laugh and makes derby practice even better. As well as my mom for driving me an hour to and from derby every week; I really appreciate it. Also to all the coaches who take the time to teach us and train us! Thank you!

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

I really want to be a labour and delivery nurse and would love to continue to play derby!

Likes: travelling, breakfast foods, striped shirts, movie theatre popcorn, any kind of dog, iced tea and making people laugh.

Dislikes: people who are full of themselves, spiders, filling the car with gas, and deadlines

Derby wife?

The oh-so wonderful DoctorWhoCares!!!!
