Congratulations to our January skater of the month, Tam Foolery. She is new to derby and has shown great dedication to the sport, on and off the track. Congratulations Tammy!
Where do you work?
After losing my job due to health reasons, I started focusing on my own craft shop OH! Accessories. I get to do what I love and create what I want all day!
How does your job affect your derby career?
I make my own hours, so I can spend lots of time with derby.
What are your hobbies outside of derby?
Scouring thrift shops and flea markets for items to up-cycle, and crocheting items for charity.
How do your outside hobbies/skills affect your derby career?
I often find myself forcing my ideas on the league and making derby-related items whether they like it or not. Fortunately, everyone has been really patient and supportive so far 🙂
What is the story behind your derby name?
I wanted a derby name with my name in it, and wasn’t creative enough to come up with something better.
Why roller derby?
I love to skate, and being able to hit people is a huge bonus!
What would you be doing right now if you weren’t involved with derby?
Although I still get ID’d for alcohol, I am pretty much an 80-year-old at heart. I love to cuddle with my dogs while crocheting and watching Judge Judy with a hot cup of tea.
What’s your favourite part of the derby experience?
The camaraderie and support of the entire league. It’s like having a second family.
What position do you play?
Blocker. I love hitting people and getting hit.
How do you hone your derby skills?
When the weather allows, I skate around the parking lot at Vineland School.
Who is your Biggest Fan(s)?
My baby boy. He not only helped to run the scoreboard, but also helped with setup and breakdown at bouts until he went away to college.
Who is your hero?
Our very own Wrecker, and QCRG’s Bricks Hit-House. When I grow up, I want to be able to block like them!
Most memorable derby moment?
Trying not to puke before my first co-ed scrimmage. It ended up being the most fun bout that I’ve played!
Making sure that I remembered everything to take to the arena. And checking multiple times. And still forgetting things. My memory sucks.
What is your athletic background?
I played competitive-level soccer and gingette when I was younger, but haven’t done much of anything for over 15 years.
Advice to someone interested in playing?
I don’t second-guess yourself… sign up and let NRG change your life!
Who do you want to give a SHOUT OUT to?
There are SO many people who deserve recognition; all of the committee chairs, my team captains, the BOD, everyone who has come out to watch me play, and the list goes on….thank you to everyone for having a positive influence on my life!! It should be your faces posted above, not my ugly mug stinking up the NRG page!
I loooooove chai tea, crocheting, chihuahuas, and everything about summer. I despise winter (I’m a horrible Canadian), and rude people.
I’m too old to get married and don’t want any more children. 😛
