How does your job affect your derby career?
Gives me money to pay dues

What are your hobbys outside of derby?
I enjoy knitting (o rly?), creating things anyway I can (when I can find the time), baking and dancing (alone… in my room)

How do your outside skills/hobbys affect your derby career?
Well aside from my derby name? not much.

What is your derby name?
What’s the story behind it? I’m naughty, I like to knit and my names Nicole.

Why roller derby?
No idea. Didn’t really know what I was getting into. Joining may have been the most serendipitous things that had ever happened to me (perfect mistake). I say this because when I first started I was so scared I regretted it almost immediately, given I had never played a full contact sport, been on roller skates and had never been around so many assertive women.

What would you be doing right now if you weren’t involved with derby? Probably be much more depressed, probably would be panicking alot more but knitting more. Maybe I would have started doing more art things, gone back to school, found a job in my field… but one things for certain, I would have defiantly found myself with less confidence.

What’s your favorite part of the derby experience?
The athleticism and meeting so many beautiful and kind women.

What position do you play?
Mostly Pivot and blocker as of now, but I dabble in the Jam.

How do you hone your Derby Skills?
Push myself when I’ve lacking and try to focus on the progress I’ve made

What’s your favourite pre-practice meal or snack?
Hmm, anything really. Chocolate and these new energy bars I’ve been making.

Who is your Biggest Fan(s)?

Who is your Hero?
Derby hero? Suzy Hotrod is a good one. Her body and her moves leave me weak. But there are so many amazing derby players I have met and played over the past ~two years that have floored me with awe and that have taught me so much. Everyday heros? I have too many to say.

What is your favourite thing about roller derby?
That there’s always room for improvement, there’s always cool new people to meet, new places to go and new games to see.

Most Memorable Derby Moment?
Our last game against the Maids. Group scrimmages. Merkins and after parties

Pre-Bout Rituals?
Don’t have many rituals. But if I did naps would me one and psyching myself up by doing a million things at once.

What’s your Athletic Background?
I played soccer for around 12 years, I was a grass picker for probably 10 of them. I do enjoy hiking, longboarding and biking though, non-competitively.

Advice to Someone Interested in Playing?
I would love to tell anyone interested in joining derby, that you should do what you want. And if you join, you can’t give up. Whatever you do, you have to do it wholeheartedly. I was scared shitless, quiet and angry at first but you have to fight yourself more than anyone sometimes. Be real, be kind and just giver’

Who do you want to give a SHOUT-OUT to?
Any of our fans, I hope you love watching us. As for all those I love I would hope that you know I appreciate you and that there would be no need for a shout out.

Likes: the lay, beer, performance, taking a moment, creation, fiber arts…

Derby Wife?
No one, but I like to think I’m a pretty polygamous derby girl though.
